Editorial Policy
Editorial Policy
How the site selects what to cover, how it writes, and how it handles errors and corrections.
Independence
When You Awake is editorially independent. No labels, publishers, management companies, or commercial partners have any influence over what the site covers or how it covers it. Coverage decisions are made entirely on editorial grounds.
Selection
The site covers Americana, folk, and roots music, including photography, film, and cultural context around that music. Selection is based on what seems worth writing about carefully. The site does not cover everything. It covers what it finds interesting and writes about it at length.
Sources and verification
Claims about historical events, dates, and biographical facts are cross-referenced before publication. Where the site is uncertain, it says so. Reference sources used in articles are the five approved external archives: Wikipedia, the Smithsonian Institution, the Library of Congress, the Recording Academy, and Discogs.
Corrections
Factual errors are corrected when identified. Corrections are applied to the original page and noted at the end of the post or page. Material corrections (those that change the substance of a claim) are described explicitly.
Minor corrections (spelling, formatting, broken links) are fixed without note.
Commercial relationships
The site has none. There is no advertising. There are no sponsored posts. There are no affiliate links. There are no exchange arrangements of any kind.
Outbound links
The site maintains exactly five external links across all content, pointing to reference archives and databases for reader convenience. No external link is present in exchange for anything. The five domains are: wikipedia.org, si.edu (Smithsonian), loc.gov (Library of Congress), grammy.com (Recording Academy), discogs.com.
Pitches and guest content
Guest contributions are occasionally published. They are subject to the same editorial standards as staff writing. Contributors are not compensated. Guest posts are not a route to placement, backlinks, or promotional mention.
